Twee Engelse zusjes hebben via een petitie, die getekend is door ruim een half miljoen Engelsen, McDonalds en Burger King het vuur aan de schenen gelegd. Het ging hierbij met name om het gebruik van niet-afbreekbare plastics in de kindercadeaus van o.a. de Happy Meal. Burger King heeft besloten om ‘oude’ plastic speeltjes van de kindermenu’s in te zamelen en om te smelten naar onder meer speeltoestellen. McDonalds heeft besloten om vanaf nu als alternatief voor het speelgoed fruit of boeken aan te bieden. Het streven van beide fastfood ketens is om in 2025 geheel ‘plasticvrij’ te zijn.
